(not another) what is this?

im trying to sleep then i get images that I don’t know if they are HI or maybe a mild dream or something.
the thing is that i wake up after 10 secs-1 min of whatever it is…with a jolt! :eh:
not enough to sit up but when im on my side, i fall to my back.

well… from that I’m guessing it’s very strong HI? But I dunno… maybe a WILD pro will see this and help?

I have the same experience when I’m trying WILD… I guess it happens because you want to stay conscious, but fail. Your brain will notice that and wake you up. So what you experience is probably HI or a mild dream (there is no real line between the two, IMO). Just a theory, though… Maybe someone more experienced can give a better answer.

Yeah this happens to me a lot, I always kind of ‘jump up’ without actually moving much. I assume it is HI.

What you are experiencing (by the sound of it) is HI. Try not to get too involved with the images or else ( as you discovered ) you will get a sudden flash that jolts you awake. That flash can take many forms such as imagery, sounds and body sensations.

ok thanks  but how do i NOT get too involved in it?

About the jolt, it’s quite common when falling asleep. It is called a hypnagogic jerk. There is not a lot of information about it.
I think it’s because when the body falls asleep, the body sensations are switched off and the brain understands this as a fall, and wakes you up suddenly.

When you are focusing on HI as a WILD induction you just want to be aware of the HI don’t focus on the imagery itself. Simply let the shapes, colors and images come and go. Be aware of the images but don’t think about them or try to control them in anyway.

Another thing you can try is to visualize a simple object and keep your focus there. The imagery will form around the object but pay no attention to the imagery that forms. Again be aware of it but don’t think about it.

The key here, as with any WILD technique, is letting go of your consciousness. If you are too aware, thinking too much then the HI flashes will wake you every time.
