Post Election Support Group - Part 2

Probably better to move to Ohio .

it could have hypothetically been tied 269 to 269 if bush had won ohio but lost nevada and iowa and new mexico.

well, technically the electors of the electoral college haven’t casted their votes yet. One elector from West Virgina (bush state) has decided he might not vote for bush in protest of his policies. link to the article

technically, the real election has not happened. If however it was tied after the electoral votes are actually cast and counted in the house, the election goes to the house of representatives, where each state decides upon their ONE vote, and the candidate with a majority becomes the president (ths would make Bush the president easily). The funny thing is that the vice president would then be decided in the senate, and if our senate happened to be democratic (its not), it could go to john edwards, hehe that would be funny.

Hooray for american government class! I had a miderm on Election Day!

anyway, so let’s say kerry wins both iowa and new mexico… it would only take five electors to change their minds and make kerry the president.

I’m way too optimistic. The republican party of each state picks super party loyalists as electors, with the exception of the one from WV.

So, we’re stuck with President Bush for another four years I guess… Really, i’m stuck here, I wouldn’t be so upset if I could think of a reasonable reason to vote for Bush. Here’s the only ones I could come up with, any help would be nice…

-morals (a bad reason to vote for a candidate)
-you’re rich
-you’re ignorant or uneducated
-you get all your news from the TV (which makes you scared shitless of terror attacks)
-you hate people who wear turbans (you’re racist)

I really can’t think of any others, I’m not being sarcastic or cynical. If you are a bush supporter and you are none of those things, I am looking for an intelligent argument why it would be a good idea to vote for Bush.

Well I see you all heard the bad news. Bush has won.
However, I don’t think he wins with a clear mandate. Unfortunately, the country is strongly divided. ( I was hoping it would prove not to be) The electoral map is almost identical to the 2000 race.

What went wrong:

  1. gay marriage had a bigger impact than I gave it credit for. The gay marriage ban on the Ohio ballot brought out the born again Christians in unprecedented numbers.

  2. 18 - 25 year old people did not turn out in the great numbers that were predicted.

  3. The redistricting that republicans did gave their party and advantage in the electoral vote. If the districts remained the same as the 2000 election (which they should have) Kerry would have won the election once New Hampshire (the only state to change sides since 2000) fell to the Democrats

I actually know of people who moved to Canada even before the election.

I just hope Bush understands that this country is strongly divided and he will change course and stop pursuing such an extreme agenda.

BTW- the time you posted this Bush only had 269 electoral votes and Ohio was still counting votes so, Kerry should not have conceded the election at that point. I don’t think even Bush expected him too.

Feel good and look to 2008. Yes I truly mean it.

Bush barley won this election when he should have had an easy victory.

The DNC really screwed this one up. They never expected to win this year and so, they did not put their best candidate in the race. Senators don’t usually make good presidential candidates. Second, we are in the middle of a war. We have never changed presidents (mid term) in the middle of a war before. Third, The gay marriage and stem cell issue turned out to be a big issue in this race along with other religious issues. Forth, the redistricting that Republicans did favored them by 7 electoral votes. Fifth, low 18-25 year old turn out. Yet, Despite all of this, Kerry almost won!

I think we need to change leadership in the DNC and get things back on track. Who ever decided that Bush could not loose just because we are in the middle of a war was a moron. Dean proved that this was not true. Only when he gained so much support did democrats believe that Bush could loose. Also, this is the second election where we showed that it is possible to win without a single southern state.

Perhaps we should have some people in strong blue states move to certain red states where Republicans win by only a few hundred to a few thousand votes and change the balance in those states.

Or:

We could just divide th country in half and have 2 president. One for the north and one for the south.

I hope the next president after bush in 4 years will be a female president!
That would be awsome! If so…bush may rule now!]

Anybody has a female for president on his or her mind, starts with a H

IM just happy that Bush won, which means he gets to fill the 4 supreme court judges seat with conservative judges, and over half of the senate is republican.

God Bless America!!

I dunno about female, but in 2008 we could have the first nonwhite president, my governer, Obama. He wast the keynote speaker for the convention and he won IL by basically 90%.

yeah obama rocks

I would not count on that one. While Republicans control the senate Democrats can still (and will) block the confirmation of conservative judges. Most likely you will see more moderate judges if any retire at all. There is no law that says those judges have to retire so, you might just see some hang in there for at least another 4 years.

I was totaly against bush winning this, and i didnt like kerry either,
the whole time i didnt want bush to win but i was certain that he would,
however after spending time on this thread and reading your post and posting some of my own, i was hopeful that kerry would win, and for a while their i actualy thought he would.
Bieng involved with this thread actualy clouded my realistic thinking, making me hopeful for kerry, but now that its all over, i think we all will do alot better to just start the excepting process, and except that bush is president once again and hope that the next four years will be better than the last.
But no matter what happens, i will always be proud to be an AMERICAN, and proud to live in the USA, no matter what morron is running things…

It’s over…why is this topic still here? I would have voted Kerry though. I am not of the legal age though.

Ya your right this topic shouldnt be here anymore, so i think i will start a new topic on…Things that piss me off about bush…
it’ll be a thread where we can all post the things that piss us off about anthing stupid he does for the next four years,
what do you all think about this?

I think people will except that Bush won. Weather or not he gets support depends on what he does. I think is going to be in for a hard for years. By the end he may well wish Kerry had won as well. But like I said that is all up to him and choices he makes. He alone has the power to bring the country together or keep it divided.

I guess it is now a post election support group.

I want kerry in win in '08. or maybe dennis kucinich will run again.

What we need is another Bill Clinton. Perhaps we should have stuck with Howard Dean.

All 11 states presented with the vote for an amendment against gay marriage voted YES!
out of republican hatred and religious views

Marriage should have never been on the ballot! It was an issue used for votes for Bush and worked.

“Statement Of Congressman Dennis J. Kucinich On The Federal Marriage Amendment”

“Congressman Dennis J. Kucinich (D-OH) gave the following statement today(September 30th 2004) on the House floor during debate on the Federal Marriage Amendment”

Gay couples have the right to marry today!! under the constitution!
It should never have been a voting issue, and congress will never give any time to such an “amendment” to our federal constitution.

We are calling ourselves “Divided States of America” and “Divided we Stand” on all media TV and newspapers!!

Is that not embarassing??!?
Is it not embarassing that the exit polls showed Americans main concern was “moral issues” DURING A WAR!

Nevada just voted to allow their Mountains to become toxic waste dump! :grrr:

Is that not disapointing??!!

Alaska just voted to exploit their oil … and NO for medical marijuana!!!

Is that not saddening??

Osama just dropped in looking healthy as ever … as we pump TRILLIONS into Iraq!!
and for what?

the 1st four years the World used the excuse that Bush wasn’t technically elected.
these 2nd four years Bush was elected in RECORD NUMBERS
and AFTER THESE SHOCKING LAST 4 YEARS

I’m very ashamed and depressed into tears

EDIT:

subvert the rules
hatred

I can’t believe you have the nerve to mention …

I completely agree with you on everything you said.

I thought the marijuana thing passed though I could be wrong.

What is sad is the rest of the world watches this and sees what we consider to be “moral” issues. It makes me understand why lots of people around the world hate us.

A lot of people are happy with how bush has run the country. Even if you think he made a few mistakes, you can still agree with him. You can argue all you want that he is horrible but I think we have proved that is not true.

By the way theres nothing wrong with having morals. Some people want to allow everyone to run around and do everything short of killing each other.

By the way, some people think hillary clinton might run in 2008.
