Post Election Support Group

Gah, Bush reallly needs to get a thesaurus. I think Kerry won because he handled himself a lot better.

Wah?! Bush is winning in this poll??? The only person here who seemed Bushy was Alric. Show yourselves Bushies!

oh no, … I fear the 2000 elections all over again.

Has anyone heard about how Jeb Bush hasn’t done jack doodlely about the voting system in Florida? … although he promised improvments after the 2000 election chaos. eck!

Hows the government work in Netherlands? Is there like… a King of Holland? Adorned with a crown of pot, prostitutes and wooden shoes?

Yes. I know what you are talking about, but the one thing that has yet to be touched on is the word volunteer. For the sake of argument lets assume there is no intention of a draft and instead lets look at the word volunteer for a moment.

Most of the people who enlist (volunteer) for the armed services are people who are poor, have had little or no educational opportunities, and in general have a bleak outlook for their future. Along come the (pick your service) recruiters who tell you they have a way out. We will provide for all your needs, pay you money, and provide for your education. Oh, let’s not forget their favorite line “You’ll get to travel around the world”(like you are booking a cruse). So for many the options are: Poverty on one hand or 3 hots and a cot along with free education plus travel with the armed services. What choice would you make? Volunteer! I think not.

All I can say if Bush wins this year with no reelection to worry about ( for those that don’t know in the US a President can only hold office for 2 terms.). I just might move to Canada or the Netherlands. 4 more years of Bush scares the @#$% out of me.

Looks like the ld4all poll is dead even right now.

Thats not true. There are many opportunities in the armed services for educated people. You also don’t have to be poor to take advantage of the other stuff they offer.

Clearly some of the jobs are worse than others but I wouldn’t bash the entire armed services. You just don’t want to join the army and be on the ground in iraq, atleast if you want a safe job. Some people really do like their job in the army though, and are more than willing to risk their life.

I watched the first party of Bush vs Kerry debate…

you konw what? When I watched bush… I AM FREAKY SO TIRED OF HIS UNCLEAR SAYINGS!!!

Kerry seems so confident and more direct to the point! I’m going to vote for Kerry cuz I hate Bush already… and I hate how bush tries to put us to sleep by repeating everything. THat’s what he does… as if he’s trying to hide something! Totally stupid eh?

Kerry… yup… definitely am going for him! I want something different!

P.S. I seriously would kill the tv when it comes to the final result of voting if bush wins again.

then I would just get outttttta here!!! I even consider moving to Canada in the future or something if USA gets even more corrupted!

sorry i’ll shut up…

wow Dm7, from earlier chats with you it seens you are on a killing spree!! :gni: We are going to have to lock you away in the LD4all loooooony bin! :lmao:

lol neo

well actually we have a Queen and a parlement (sp). The Queen is more of a symbol but she does have some influence on the parliament (don’t know what atm

We have elections every 4 years and then the parlament is formed. Unfortunately we cannot chose our prime minister directly :meh:

long long story to explain.

we have a LD4all loony bin? :cool_laugh: Let me in!

 I sectioned off a corner once I seen the demand. I have a feeling it’s going to quickly be over-populated. :eh: At the moment it’s less like a looney bin and more like a padded cell.

oh yeah, I guess to remain on topic I’ll show you my George Bush impression … :notify:

I share the same feeling about this w/ DM7!! It would be a totally terrible thing if bush got reelected >_<

Me too, but sadly I’m worried it’s going that direction.

I’m afraid Bush will win again, and Blair will win too next year, due to the weakness of the opponents. People want to know how the critics of Bush and Blair will deal with terrorism and as long as they don’t have a clear alternative, people will vote for the folks in power. I’ve read the transcript of the debate, and to me Kerry didn’t do a bad job but I’m not sure if it’s enough. I hope he’ll crush his opponent in the next debates, I’m afraid he’ll need that to win the elections. Otherwise we’ll have to wait until 2008, when Hillary Clinton will become president

I unfortunatelly ahve to admit that its true. bush DOes have a (sLiGhtlY)higher amout of votes than Mr. Kerry >< >< >< >< >< >< >_<

I agree. I too hope Bush losses. However, I do not think Kerry is as weak as people think. Right now they are running neck and neck so he can’t be that weak. Until recently most people have not heard much from Kerry. Mainly because over the last month and ½ press coverage was focused on the republican convention and then florida got hit with 4 hurricanes.

While I believe Kerry won the debate he did not blast Bush as much as I thought he would. I think Kerry’s main intention in the first debate was to outline his plan for Iraq and the war on terror. Fortunately, the next 2 debates are on topics where Kerry polls stronger than Bush.

If you have not yet seen Michael Mores movie Fahrenheit911 it is coming out on tape tomorrow. I highly recommend people watch this movie. It is a documentary but, it is very powerful and will hold your attention.

It would be a shame if Blair lost reelection. He seems ok to me and I wish him the best of luck.

Well you totally missed my point and inferred things which I did not say. I did not in any way bash the armed services. They are awesome people who are well trained to do a difficult job. What I did critique was the armed services recruiting tactics and wether or not we truly have a volunteer army. It’s not volunteer when enlisting in many cases is your only chance for a future. In the wealthiest country in the world people should have more opportunities than that. It is also telling that the number of people who reenlist after their time is up is at an all time low. Again this is not against our brave soldiers but, how they are used and treated. They deserve better.

According to the U.S. census, there are 35.8 million Americans living below the poverty line. Including reservists, the U.S. military currently has 1.2 million people. Even assuming that every single man and woman in the military is below the poverty line (they’re not), only 3% of Americans below the poverty line choose to go into the military.

Clearly, the other 97% believe there are choices other than going into the military. Therefore, it is a mistake to say that living below the poverty line means you have no choice but to go into the military.

People enlist for a number of different reasons. Economic incentives are often among them (this is true of every profession). But this does not mean that the military is not voluntary. There is no draft. Anyone who does not wish to join the military can choose not to enlist, and no one will stop them from not enlisting.

It is hard to imagine how the U.S. military could be any more voluntary than it already is. Assuming the concept of an “all-volunteer army” can possibly exist, the U.S. military qualifies as one IMHO.

The first thing you have to understand about the statistic you just stated is that they are completely wrong. I won’t give you the hole lecture but I will give you some highlights . The US census bureau has not raised the Federal Poverty Rate since the early 60’s I believe. Also, the formula they use to determine how many people live in poverty is seriously antiquated. It does not take into account the cost of things like housing, child care, and of course health care just to name a few. Housing alone in most places takes up ½ of the average persons income (in some places more). So, basically what I am saying is that there are a lot more people living in poverty then you realize. (yes I am perfectly comfortable stating this as a fact. That is how confident I am about this issue. Anyway this is a bit off topic but, I’ll be happy to debate this in another thread if you wish) Don’t get me wrong I am not saying everything sucks. I am just saying things could and should be better.

While I agree that is true real life does not always work like that. You really need to see Fahrenheit911 it will hep you put this issue into a better prospective.

Anyone who takes anything in Fahrenheit911 to be true is the one who seriously needs a new prospective. Its been pretty much proven that most things in the movie are made up. The parts not made up, they just happened to leave out “some” of the facts.

Just because some people feel its their only chance for a better future doesn’t mean its that way for them all. Besides isn’t giving the poor a chance to make a decent living a good thing anyway?

Joining the army is like joining the police or becomming a fireman. I don’t see anyone saying people are forced into that. In a lot of cases police may risk their life even more than a person in the army.

The government doesn’t force anyone to join. And the government doesn’t make people poor. Personlly I would rather have someone join the army and EARN a living, than sitting on the street and the government hands them a check every week for being a bum.
