I recently started attempting lucid dreaming. I feel MILD is the right technique for me, and I have read the post about choosing my technique. I believe I am highly motivated, and I do take a long time to sleep I just want to know the best way to do MILD. Am I doing it right by going to sleep, thinking: “When I am dreaming, I will realize I am dreaming” And when I wake up, think myself back to sleep, thinking the same thing? I mean on average how long will it take to start producing lucid dreams, and will they be vivid, or will they get more vivid as I increase dream recall? And can I increase dream recall at the same time as practicing MILD, by keeping a dream journal? And if I do this, will my dreams become more vivid with time, as well as I will get lucid dreams? In short, what is generally the best way to practice MILD and get extremely vivid lucid dreams, and have a good dream recall.

Welp… first off, don’t worry about feeling noobish, these are all good questions. But there is no short answer to this. So, let’s begin answering your other questions first:
Yes, basically. With more emphasis on the part after waking up from (specifically REM) sleep. Although you can do MILD before going to bed, it’s best done after waking up from REM sleep, which is known as the WBTB technique.
It all depends on the dream. You can increase the vividness of a lucid dream with your own willpower. MILD doesn’t really affect dream vividness itself.
Yes, you can increase your dream recall with a dream journal. If you are going to take lucid dreaming seriously, it is strongly recommended that you write in a dream journal so you can keep your recall up and hopefully increase your LD frequency. This also usually increases the general vividness of your dreams.
So basically, MILD’ing during WBTB (after you wake from REM sleep) is the best time to get lucid dreams, but there’s no harm in doing it before bed. Thank you so much I think i will sleep with the intention of waking up after dreams and remembering them, writing those down, then attempting to become lucid.
I have always thought that the action of simply writing in a dream journal can make lucid dreams occur.
So a dream journal is not only a help to remember dreams, it can also actually give you lucid dreams.
I believe this is because it makes you focus much more on your dreams, which would obviously increase your chances to become lucid.
