Reality Check questions

Hey everyone. It’s been awhile since I posted. I’m back to school, so it pretty much hurts my LD’ing attempts. Anyways, since I can’t do a WBTB during weekdays, I decided to try RCing again.

I have a couple questions though:

  1. If I do a RC twice every hour, how long should it take for me to RC in my dreams?

  2. If I do have my second lucid dream using RC, do I have to keep reality checking to have another one, or if I do it in a dream once I’ll do it all the time?

Thanks everyone

Hmm, as far as a timeline goes. Everybody here will tell you. It depends on the person and the frequency of RC. 2 every hour is not enough. Sorry. It will become habit. Many use the “walk through the door” method. Where they RC after walking through a doorway, due to the fact that unstable scene changes usually occur at this point in dreamland. Everybody has their own method but the key is to find an act you do frequently. My favorite and most suggested is checking your hands. Specifically counting your fingers. I have had numerous dreams where I had an extra pinky and my hands we’re glowing. Besides that it’s just simple to look at your hands. Another method I suggest is “checking your company” look around and examine everybody your hanging out with in your waking life. You will find yourself doing it asleep, “I don’t know 50 Cent. Eureka! Dreaming!” Checking your company can also be easily done. If your with your father, and your supposed to be with your father at the time, congratulations your awake. Simple, right?

I encourage you to find a method that makes sense to you. As well as easily performed. Play with your subconscious. I have a subliminal desire to escape. Often finding myself trying to fly. So I cultivated that desire. I just purchased a PS3. Check my topic titled VGID (Video Game Induced Dreaming)

  1. I’ve been doing LDs for a few months, maybe had 10-15 LDs. At first I did RCs in my dream to get lucid, but in my ~3 latest LDs I just became lucid from flying or other dreamsigns.

I think that when I’m in school I’ll RC everytime I go to my locker or if I enter a doorway. Prob the doorway. I’ll check out your topic, thanks!

Thanks for your input! I’ll RC to experiment and then I’ll try to do Dream Signs! I think I need to get used to the feel of lucid first though

Your second question. You must perform them all the time. Having one success is a reason to keep doing reality checks, not to stop them. As far as your school schedule goes. You are supposed to use the sun as an aid in WBTB. If you must be at school at 8 a.m. It would be possible to WBTB from 4:30-5 a.m. Have one sleep cycle between 5 & 6:30. Then wake up and head to school by 8 a.m. 4:30 sounds early I know. But it is part of your circadium rhythm, your natural sleep cycle. You would tremedously increase yoru chances of success if you slept closer to your natural rhythm. Going to bed at 10:30, waking up at 4:30, would give you 6 hours of sleep. Exactly what WBTB suggest. Allowing you to hover above the thin line of “tired”. School may actually be used to help you. I often dream of being in school. So if you performed a WBTB on a school day, it might be in the front part of your brain allowing you to dream about a scenario set at school. Example: You have a test in science the day of your WBTB. YOu wake up around 5 a.m. thinking about your day at school. So when it’s time for you to set a dream scene you use what your ALREADY thinking about. You have a science test, go to bed again thinking about that. Not space travel, or telekinesis, or whatever you were hoping to do while Lucid. You can play on your subconscious, using what you think about on a lower, deeper level to induce dreams.

Example: My mom just left for 3 months. Something I am trying to come to terms with. So my subconcious is wroking it out. Giving me a high probability of haveing my mother become a dream character. Which could trigger Lucid dreams, “Wait! My mother’s in NYC. I’m dreaming.”

See what I mean, it could be used for anything. Did your dog just die? Do you have a test in school? Are you looking for a new job? Did you just buy a skateboard your excited about? Are you trying to learn another language. Did you just watch a good movie. These are the scenarios we should try to create to induce dreaming, whatever is relevant to you. Whatever can “play on” your waking life.

That’s a very insightful answer ! Thanks for your input! I think I’ll try a WBTB on the weekends, though. If I wake up in the middle of the night, I"l probably be tired through school. I’m tired as is anyways. School could help; you’re right. Thanks!

I did the nose pinch RC in a dream and I couldn’t breathe, so I assumed I wasn’t dreaming and the dream went on as normal. In another dream, there were letters written on a cake. I glanced away and when I looked back the letters had changed. This lead me to my first LD.

Here’s my question:

Should I keep performing reality checks that haven’t worked for me? Could they work in another dream? Or should I focus on those that have worked?

My main RC is the nose pinching one, it’s the one that has worked best for me. After many times using it and getting lucid, this past week I did it (in a dream) around 2 or 3 times and I couldn’t breathe either. Last night I did it and I could breathe. My point is sometimes they just don’t work :eh: So just because it didn’t work doesn’t mean it never will

You can try around with different ones. After a while you’ll see which one has worked best for you. Go with that one. And it’s always good to have a couple other RC’s up your sleave :content: so if you can’t breathe when you pinch your nose you can try other RC’s to be more sure.

Go with the ones that work. Subconsciously you view those as more probable. Backups are great to. Some fail at certain times. I love counting fingers, or double checking my current company.
