First off, I am relatively new to LD. I had so far just one Ld which lasted for like 5 seconds.
At the moment I have the opportunity to sleep regularly around 9 hours each night, so I thought WBTB would be perfect. Now I have the problem(and always had) that I need very long to fall asleep. When I first go to bed it often takes one hour.
So the last to nights I practiced WBTB. The first time I tried WILD with no success. I just didn’t get tired.
Today I tried MILD, but it is also very difficult to have my mantra in mind just before I fall asleep because it just takes so long even after sleeping only like four hours before practicing WBTB.
Should I continue doing WBTB+MILD or doesn’t it make sense when I need so long to fall asleep again?
Any tips?
Well, when you wake up in the middle of the night for WBTB how tired are you? and how long do you stay up? You may be able to try only waking up and going straight to LD’ing. People usually stay up exactly to make their minds more awake. If yours is already very awake then you don’t need to stay up!
In any case, you can try WILD if you are able to stay very still. MILD I think is usually best if you can fall asleep
I have the exact same problem that you do, and I have found that WBTB+MILD is actually pretty effective. Here’s the key: only repeat the mantra as long as you need. It’s great to repeat until you fall asleep, but unnecessary. You only need to do it until you feel that your SC has gotten the point. True, that makes it a bit more autosuggestion than MILD, but it works nonetheless.
WILD has one major issue for people like us. Staying still for that long is a pain in the ass! Even with my alarm set for 5.5 hours after I fall asleep (which is recommended btw), it still takes a good half hour to fall back asleep.
One last tip, when you WBTB don’t get out of bed and move around like many people suggest. Like mattias said, since it takes a while to fall asleep, you already have the level of alertness that others are trying to get when the get out of bed. If anything, this makes WBTB so much easier for me.
When I try wbtb I try vild afterwards. The problem I have is that my mind after a while forgets to vild and I start thinking about something else, the same think hapens with a mantra. I only realise I forgot thinking about it when I next wake up.
