Staying in a lucid dream

Hello everyone! My names McKay. I’ve had ~20 lucid dreams before, over a dozen of those in my high school years practicing the skill. Now I’m in college and getting back into the practices such as dream journaling, reality checks, and MILD/SSILD. Since practicing again a month ago I’ve had 6 new lucid dreams, but I haven’t been able to remain in them. I become lucid, then everything turns grey then black as I awake. Last night I had another one, but this time I rubbed my hands together and did spinning as everything became grey. I remained in the grey while doing these things and after a few seconds I woke up. Does anyone have experience or advice to share on how to remain in the dreamscape when you become lucid?

I went through similar thing.

I would get lucid on the stage where dream just sort of appearing , like the contract building up . But as soon as I try to move it would pixilated and just fall apart.

Nothing worked for a while only up until I let go the pressure that I need to become lucid and shifted to meditation and breath work in real life.

Something about collecting enough “free energy”.

But also might be not an ideal time to try LD , maybe try different timing to catch REM
