Taking a break from lucid dreaming?

I read up a bit on other topics about people struggling to lucid dream, and a common solution seems to be to simply take a break from lucid-dreaming stuff for a little bit.

After my 2nd lucid dream a week ago, I did actually start taking a break, although it was not necessarily because I was struggling with lucid dreaming. It’s mostly because I’ve become busy with school, midterms coming up, other stuff happening, etc. I’m still doing reality checks, and occasionally reading up and surfing for LD stuff (just not as frequently).

But, in the short while that I’ve taken a break from LD-ing, I seem to have lost all lucid dreaming capability whatsoever. I have wild, insane dreams - and yet I fail to pick up the most obvious dream signs. It’s a bit frustrating because I worked really hard to achieve my first two lucid dreams, and now that I’ve stopped for not even a week to catch up with real-life business, it’s as if everything just disappeared, gone, just like that.

Does anyone else experience this when taking breaks from LD-ing?

Not really.
When I took my break from Lucid dreaming, That night I had my first LD.
And the following night I had another. I decided to take the rest of the week off, and about 5-7 days later (I’m not sure) I had my Third LD.

But lately I’ve started back up because a dry spell was starting to form. :bored:

Anyways, I hope you regain your LD abilities, this may just be a dry spell for you.
during full moons (Like right now) I tend to have really vivid dreams. And when the moon isn’t out, I tend to not remember my dreams very well, or at all. :eh: the moon might have something to do with your problems. But hey! that’s just my suggestion. :peek:

Good, especially the reality checking.

This isn’t a surprise at all, while it is common for people to have an LD or two after they stop trying this quickly dries up. LDing require a conscious intent, if I were to stop trying to LD within a week or two I wouldn’t be having an LD’s.

Winter Depths - your experience is what typically happens to people who take breaks, especially if they have been going for it after a while. But note how after a week or so you stopped having lucid dreams. They do require effort and intent.

Remember the main reason for taking a break is to re-focus, re-motivate, and clear negative thoughts.

Thanks for the suggestions guys, it all makes sense. On a side note, I just now realized the moon is full. Although ironically, I stopped LD-ing when the full moon came out

Looks like you hit the bull’s eye, Lucidity Master. Perhaps I can re-focus and channel my energy into LD-ing once these hellish exams and essays are through!
On another side note; although I don’t become lucid, my dream recall seems to remain good, unlike before I started LD practice. I guess that’s a good sign!
