Set the alarm 1-1.5 hours before waking up → Fall asleep → Wake up → Turn off the alarm → Fall asleep with the thought “I’m in a dream” → enter a lucid dream in 1-5 minutes. No WBTB, meditation, or complex techniques - just cleverness and sleep inertia! Share your experiences and life hacks.
Umm but isn’t the whole - set alarm and then go back to sleep WBTB XD
I’m with Q. I don’t see a big difference to WBTB. You explicitly don’t get out of bed but it’s not like this is a requirement for WBTB either.
Yes, LOOP is a lazy version of WBTB, but with key differences:
No wakefulness phase
In classic WBTB, you have to get up, wash your face, keep your brain active for 10-30 minutes.
LOOP — just turn off the alarm → fall asleep immediately. No body movements!
Works through sleep inertia
In the morning, the brain is already in a “half-transparent” state between sleep and reality.
The thought “I’m in a dream” is effortlessly embedded in the next dream, like a virus.
Trigger for false awakenings
After a LOOP, the brain often “throws up” scenarios like, “Wait, why did the alarm go off?” → awareness.
You’re right - strictly speaking, WBTB doesn’t necessarily require getting out of bed. But the key difference between LOOP is two things:
Minimal disruption of sleep
In classic WBTB, even if you don’t get out of bed, it’s recommended to stay awake for 10-30 minutes (read, meditate).
LOOP, on the other hand, completely eliminates the wakefulness phase. Woke up → turned it off → fell asleep in seconds.
Emphasis on the “sleep paradox”
LOOP uses the moment of disorientation upon waking up (“Was there an alarm in my dream?”).
This is closer to a hybrid of WBTB + MILD, but without conscious effort.
That is Wbtb… the whole getting out of bed is optional. But yes it works!
And no matter what you name it, in the end it’s not the name of a tech or specifically “this tech vs that tech’, it’s what works for you!
Also in dream yoga, one of the core things is to have a lot of these moments wake up and go to sleep etc) to facilitate lucid dreaming.
I completely agree! It all comes down to what works for you personally.
LOOP (or whatever you want to call it) is just my interpretation of WBTB, where I’ve removed all the unnecessary aspects:
There’s no mandatory wakefulness.
There are no complex steps - just an alarm → turned off → the thought “I’m in a dream.”
As with dream yoga, it’s important to catch the moments between sleep and wakefulness, but LOOP is a lighter version for those who (like me) don’t want to meditate or get up.
The key is the result, not the shortcuts. Some people become aware through WBTB, others through LOOP, and still others realize in their dreams that they forgot to put on their pants
.
@koarik622 does LOOP work well for you to get lucid dreams? And does it keep working well throughout months of using it?
Personally, when I get lazy - which I prefer - I also tend to get more forgetful and don’t get as many lucid dreams.
Any tips?
