Uncertainty over: Liberation of Iraq to take place.

YES! FINALLY! Kofi Annan orders all U.N. staff out of Iraq; inspectors could begin leaving tomorrow
-President Bush to speak at 8 p.m. EST, will say Saddam Hussein must leave Iraq to avoid war
-Administration official says a 72-hour ultimatum “is in the right ballpark”
-U.S., UK, Spain will not seek second U.N. vote; White House says diplomacy has ended

And better yet, the markets up. dow jones above 8000! (finally).

Is this sarkasm?

No, and it’s not sarcasm either.

The U.N. has proven time and again that it is an impotent organization full of self-important dictators and socialists.

I am sorry there had to be a war, but the blood is on the hands of the french. Had they supported resolution 1441 and shown a willingness to actually DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT then Saddam might have been under significant pressure to actually disarm. Instead, the placated the Iraqi regime and made it clear there would be no consequenses for Saddam’s actions.

Thanks a ton, Chirac.

well, taking a decision on bombarding thousands of innocent people isnt the lightest. And ability to do so does not proves ones bravery or smartness:(
I dont say its ok to let Saddam getting more powerfull…just cant see how bombing him can help.

Only by removing Saddam from power will anything be solved. How many more UN resolutions and how many more years are needed? Inaction only cements the slavery of the Iraqi people.

Umm, how about… “Either start the war or forget about it!” I am sick of waiting already… so why not start it or forget about it?

The U.N. has proven time and again that it is an impotent organization full of self-important dictators and socialists.

well, the most impotent organization full of self-important dictators is there in the white house! common, all they want is the oil! everybody knows that!!!

hey, the first sentence of my last post isn’t from me, i just wanted to reply to it!

No matter for what reasons… the USA and England are breaking international laws, without being in direct danger.
They just can´t do that!

Unfortunately I got to correct myself: They just shouldn´t be able to do that!

Traumgänger

P.S: I hope those of you who agree will spend some time on telling the world what they think, and go to one of the many demonstration that will start after the war starts

P.P.S: Tapirs seem to be smarter than humans

I’m very sad to see such blatant and stupid comments postet. I can’t believe that the UN is a “impotent organization full of self-important dictators and socialists.”

Just THINK for a minute…

Saddam hussein HAS to disarm. There is absolutly NO discussion needed. There is Resolution 1441 that regulates the disarment of the Iraq.
You said that the french did not show any willingness to fulfill Resolution 1441. You’re wrong…or…do you think the UN inspectors did nothing to get hussein to disarm?

Correct me if I’m wrong, but the un inspectors found a bunch of al-samud missiles and the iraqi government began to destroy them. Don’t you call that disarment?

Don’t you think that this was a good start?

i think there is no real reason for a war against iraq! there is no real danger coming from saddam hussein! it’s all just US propaganda!! all they really want is oil, oil, oil!!! there are other countries with more dangerous weapons than iraq, but they do nothing there! why? because ther’s no oil!!
by the way, what about the weapons the USA have???

David, you are so, so wrong. We are not invading Iraq for oil, and we will not take the oil. The oil belongs to the Iraqis, and we will give the oil to the people. They will use these profits from the oil for themselves, giving themselves food and shelter, not allowing an evil dictator to spend it on weapons that threaten the world. THIS IS NOT ABOUT OIL. How would the US steal oil? THEY WONT. That is crazy. And yes, there is a real danger. They are the only country, the ONLY one that has been tolerated for their disobidiance and threats. They have not disarmed, so we must do that for them. 12 long years, and thats more than enough. We will be liberating Iraq, not bombing it. We will give freedom to the people, and stop their torture. The iraqis WANT A WAR TO RID OF SADAm. You say, why dont we wage war on other “more dangerous countries”. Well Iraq, if we don’t act, will become one of those countries, with nuclear weapons and who knows what. What will we do then? Havn’t we learned anything from the past, Germany huh huh!? (BTW, france was the same back then like their attitude to iraq, saying germany isn’t that bad, lets let them build up, and who was wrong?) What about the weapons the US has? The US is a free, peaceful, nation, who uses weapons only to protect freedom and ensure peace. America, time and time again, has liberated countries, and ended facsism and communism. Why do you acuse the US of only wanting oil? I really dont understand your logic… The united states is rich enough, we dont need more oil, and hey, theres always ANWR.

Why then Korea isnt being invaded?
If we want peace all over the world why we dont take over china to free tibet?
And btw…whos been supporting all alkaidas and the rest?It would be easier to point those who actually werent:(
If this war is for humanitary sake…why ,why and why someones spending milions of dollars and taking just on iraq?
You`re right-oil isnt the only reason.War means business in many ways…who will profit when they will start rebuilding it?If it was some african republic noone would move his finger cuz there ppl just dont have a cent to spend after.Iraq has rich neighbours.
And additionally…cant wait till it comes to choosing goverment in Iraq. And who will have anything to say about it?Noone. This region is way too precious to be controlled.
And again…if it is about getting rid of Saddam…what is Cia and the rest for?I just cant imagine how bombs are better than silent and secret action.
And like it was said above…the disarming was in process:(

Ben, I’m afraid the americans did not learn from the past…at least not the republicans. No offense taken, but you’re beeing brainwashed, by the media and your gouvernment. It’s ridicioulus to believe bush would only use his military power to spread democracy, liberty and peace…

Look at your past. Why did you join WW1? Because you gave your allies a lot of money to finance the war. Unfortunatly, the war went really bad for your allies so you had to react in order to get your money back.

It’s all about money. Realize it.

As an american , who was born and raised in the United States, I am very worried about the terrorist backlash which could result from this war. Many of us are deeply saddened by the innocent Iraqi and americans who will lose their lives . My heart goes out to the children of Iraq, and so many innocent people who will be hurt. My biggest fear is “which country is next on the hit list.” Will it be Iran, North Korea, Syria, Saudi Arabia Indonesia, etc, etc,. Where will it end? Many of us believe that it is the conservative republicans who will eventually destroy our country. May God have mercy on us all.

Lots of reasons for the war are being thrown around. Something led me to believe the reason for the war is that we don’t want to get nuked by some terrorist organization that purchased their nuclear weapons from Iraq. But I guess I’ve just been brainwashed by imperialistic, capatalist, American propaganda.

i guess there was more risk about nuking from Korea than Iraq actually.Still is unfortunately.
But i think the final question is…does this war make Usa and the world safer place?

I don’t think North Korea is as threatening as they appear. Their leader is just very afraid that North Korea is next after Iraq. He really doesn’t want to go to war, he’s just very confrontational and afraid. Diplomacy is still a solution that could effectively work in North Korea opposed to Iraq.

I think once Iraq is disarmed, the world will be safer. Although their may be a higher likeliness of terrorist attacks during and after the war, none of them will compare to a nuclear attack. I, personally, would feel much safer with a war going on with Iraq than I would knowing Iraq had nucelar weapons at their disposal with very little being done to take them away.

I think the threat of Iraq is exaggurated. If Iraq is thought to be big enough a threat to launch a pre-emptive strike - a highly questionable notion that’s generally considered unacceptable - against it, it would serve as an excuse to attack a whole lot of countries. Iraq surely isn’t that dangerous anymore after the first weapons inspections that resulted in destruction of a massive amount of weapons. And in the light of current information there is no reason whatsoever to be afraid of nuclear weapons coming from Iraq. As the inspectors have clearly stated, the nuclear programme that used to exist hasn’t been revived in any way, on any level or in any extent. What comes to North Korea, we know they already have nuclear weapons.

Now a little about the reasons for this war. There seems to be one big reason that isn’t often discussed in the public debate. Jennifer Kibbe of the highly prestigious Brookings institute in Washington has said that Bush’s administration very simply just wants to show their power to the world. This is because the PNAC (Project for New American Century) has a great influence on the Bush’s administration. For example Dick Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld and Paul Wolfowitz are members of PNAC. PNAC already tried to to get Clinton to attack Iraq but failed. Perhaps the world should know that the main goal of PNAC is to demonstrate America’s leadership in the world. This actually sounds a bit like imperialistic nationalism.

To quote the organisation:

“We aim to make the case and rally support for American global leadership.”
"We seem to have forgotten the essential elements of the Reagan Administration’s success: […] a foreign policy that boldly and purposefully promotes American principles abroad[.]

Now this is just plain wrong.

Of course, this is not all Iraq is about but it is good to remember that these ideals play a great part in the US politics.

Robin Cook’s speech:
news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/politics/2859431.stm

I wonder why this threat is suddenly now so big issue and in need of rushing without proper evidence? Maybe something to do with that huge patriotism peak in USA right now? Bush and his administry is trying to take all advantage out of this hysteria and fear on terrorism. And seems like part of american media is just feeding this fear more.

And now that USA dont even need any international agreement to support action what is going to happen next? Bush and his goonies are becoming Judge, Jury and the Executioner. They could just declare few other arabic countries part of axis of evil(binary thinking anyone?) and disarm them too just like that. All this happening in name of democracy and freedom that are starting to seem like good execuses to wage war with image of high morals when you can at the same time fullfill hidden agendas and greedy motives too.

And Paul, there is no evidence at all that Iraq has any heavy long range
weapons of mass destruction and especially not any nuclear weapons. Though they might still have Anthrax bought from US in the 80s to used against people of Iran.

Why isnt USA so intrested about 3rd world country people’s right to have food, now there are people starving, how come their freedom to live isnt that important? Their most precious natural resources are bananas and coffee and they dont live in geopolitically important area i guess. And we need them to stay poor so we can live this luxurious western materialist way of life that depends on very cheap 3rd world work labour and resources.

Anyways what we need is…
:yinyang: Peace Peace Peace :yinyang:
