I split this from another topic [this is so frustrating] because this is a new question asked within that topic, and this way you will get more replies ~Q~
The problem I have with WBTB is that, I can’t get back to sleep afterwards. Once you’ve been awake and up for like 60mins (90 mins. is the optimal time, according to La Berge) , it’s really hard to just get back into bed and go back to sleep. Although, I don’t know what I’m complaining about, I just did WBTB for the first time, and I think I had my first LD (see Music-assisted LDs thread)
WBTB is so frustrating when it yields absouletely no results. It just means you waste 2 and a half hours of your morning. Tbh, though I’m not sure if I even fell asleep again. How do you lot manage to get up for an hour and then just go back to sleep?
well, im still quite new to WBTB but i doing some sort of autosuggestion i guess. im telling myself that im looking forward to the point when i can return back to bed. so when my alarm goes off (Imoved my alarm clock to the other end of the room) im already in WBTB-mode, which is like “alright buddy, you just woke up, be happy and enjoy the idea of going back to sleep in some time but for now, do something productive!”. for me its really helpful to be that prepared, its like turning a switch from “doing something useful” to “doing something LD related” and “finally!sleeping time everybody, go have some LDs”.
im also trying to ritualize the time i stay awake, which means that im trying to do the same things and steps in the same order everyday. the hard part about it is that i havent got the same amount of time everyday, it ranges from 30 minutes to 2 hours, but im trying to structure it somehow.
for example: i wake up, little autosuggestion excercise, take a shower (warm), do some business, then have breakfast (because it helps not to be hungry when i try to fall asleep… and sometimes a full stomach makes me pretty relaxed and tired), then i get to the forum in order to read and write or i do something else that is related to LDing, then im doing excercises that stimulate the interaction between both brain-hemispheres (dont know the english term, might be "cross-over-excercices "^^), then im doing some stretching for my back to be relaxed… well, and then im going back to sleep, with no time of my morning wasted two hours later im get up and then im heading for the university
Do you guys stay up THAT long?
If I do WBTB, I stay up for about 5-10 minutes, after 10-30 minutes I fall asleep again and have a LD… well sometimes, I don’t have LD’s all the time you know.
But I know, how longer you stay up, how less easy it is to fall asleep again.
i can only speak for myself, but i cant concentrate on somethinglike MILD or WILD after staying awake for only a couple of minutes ^^ im just too tired
I woke up at nine, toilet, glass of water, then straight back to bed. Wasn’t even thinking about lucidity or anything on that subject, and i fall straight into a lucid dream
