when lucid dreams are not really lucid.

Hi, I am a first time poster but i have “lurked” around here occasionally.

My question is about how I seem realize that I am dreaming, but the dream just continues on its regular course instead of me taking control. Is there some mind training I need to do in order to have a less passive reaction when I realize I am dreaming? Or is it something that will eventually come to me after I have had a few “lucid” dreams?

And a quick second question: Can anyone share a few realitly checks that have worked for them? I am not very aware of my own physical apperance when in a dream (or anytime actually), so checking to see if I have the wrong number of fingers or if my skin is rubbery doesn’t really work.

  1. This is called a false lucid dream. I get them too much.

  2. Reality checks are different for everyone. I might have a really good clock reality check, but your clocks might always tell the same time no matter how many times you look at them.

I know tons of reality checks.

  1. Look at some text, look away and look back. The text will change if you’re dreaming.
  2. Shut your nose and breathe through it! Explains itself.
  3. Try flying, even though this would probably look kind of stupid.
  4. Stick your finger through your hand.
  5. The same thing about text can be said about time. Look at the clock and look back. Sometimes the clock won’t even display the time.

Keep on reminding yourself that you are lucid … stabilise the LD, rub your hands together. It is easy for a lucid dream to slip back into a normal dream again. It would also help if you had some easy goals that you want to do when lucid, this would help to get rid of the passivity.

I’m not sure that the term ‘False LDs’ is right, I think they are pre-lucid dreams or the are ld’s that last an instant.

I agree with Moogle, you have to keep doing RC it helps to keep lucid. Also say to yourself out load before you go to bed what you want to do when you become lucid. For example. When I become lucid tonight I want pay close attention to the way things feel. This is an easy task. When I become lucid I will touch what ever is in my suroundings like a tree, the ground, or a car. This helps me to pay attention to being lucid and I am always amazed at how real things feel.
