I find lucid dreaming quite strange, especially that there are lots of people who want to LD, but WHY??? Why do people want to have LDs? Are they really all that? Whats the reason that you want to LD?
Simple: It’s fun.
that pretty much sums it all up.
it’s funx10,000.
No way! there’s so much more to LD’s! “It’s fun” is simply a tiny slice (ok, a big tiny slice). With LD’s you can
- have fun in ways impossible IWL (things limited by physics, laws, ethics, etc)
- explore your SC and get to know yourself better
- practice skills so you can use them when you’re awake (public speaking is the example I see the most)
- tap into amazing sources of creativity
- explore “reality” by trying out things you simply can’t do IWL, or even imagine, such as transforming into animals
and much more I can’t think of at the moment
I see
Why people want LDs? (Funny, I asked myself this question today )
Well… It’s different than other hobbies. Not many hobbies takes place in your dreams, and by the night. Or you probably want to do your hobby in your dreams in the night
And you can do everything! I mean, who doesn’t want to drop from the sky without any chances of dying, or fight against 10 000 huge skeletons, whom you easy can destroy by sending balls of fire (Or, if you want to exaggerate: the sun ) against them.
And everyone can do it.
In an LD, you can do whatever and be whoever you want.
A few nights ago, I went to the moon.
Before I began trying to LD, I had a nightmare every night… or almost… after that, I’ve had maybe 7 in the last year, and 2 of those turned into LDs, and only 3 were creepy enough to have me wake up.
I flew, and saw various dreamscapes of mine.
I’ve fought and nearly-defeated a criminal organization.
Some people LD for creative ideas, such as that next painting you want to do, or that song you want to write. Maybe help out with public speaking, as mattias had said.
You can do anything that your imagination lets you. Anything at all.
A while ago, I remember a topic about how LDs make you feel happy the next day. I know I’m never unhappy on days I’ve had LDs (Unless they were really that bad) but I don’t wake up angry after them.
Oh yeah! I agree completely! The other night I was really depressed and feeling bad for whatever reason. I had a few LD’s in the morning and when I finally got up not only I didn’t feel bad, I felt fantastic!!
Well… I’m a bit of a hippie so its quite a spiritual thing for me… To me its on a par with OOBEs and exploring how we function/exist outside the realm of our physical body, or at least without our normal physical senses.
I’m quite into the whole Buddhist idea of dream yoga - which is actually pretty much the same idea as LD just more geared to the goal of enlightenment. I’m not exactly great at LDing yet but WHEN (positive thinking! lol) i am then i would like to use it to explore the nature of ourselves/souls/mind - whatever you want to call it, meet spiritual guides basically explore some of the fundamental questions. I have already been able to meet a friend who passed over through an LD so i’m getting there!
All in all i guess i would have to say that i agree with Mattias - LD is fun, but its also much more than that.
I too find that ld’s are a sort of pick me up, they probaly release endorphins in the brain or something, i’ll get up after an ld and be happy as a clam even if i have to get up at 6 am for triple english on a monday (exxageration but still)
I enjoy doing things in ld’s that is impossible to do or experience elseware, for instance changing genders, or into an animal or mabey into an alien or shadow, i can fly with birds and swim as a merman at the bottem of the ocean
Same here The day after i had my first and so far only OBE I was happy and thought about it the entire day
LDs makes me more happy during the day too.
The reason I LD is that its very fun I want to find other views of the RL, I also want to learn how my SC works.
The feeling in LD’s are far beyond the feelings IRL, my favorite feeling is when I can breathe in places its impossible to breathe IRL
And Im never angry or tired after an LD
LDs are what you want them to be.
They can be fun, spiritual, psychological, explorational, experimental, stress relief, relaxation…
And they can be done by anyone, any time, as long as you get enough REM sleep.
LD’s are great because you can make your dreams even more personal and original. I’ve only had two and they didn’t last long (still working on it ) but but I’m looking forward to doing it again. For example, I hear they’re really great if you’re artistic (for ideas) and I’m a musician, I play guitar. I personally am hoping that when I can lucid dream well that I’ll be able to get song ideas from it or a concept. That’s what I mean by personal, different people, different reasons, one goal. You know?
I have LD rarely. I don’t want to have them. When I do, It usually involves really strange things. I saw my death cousin a couple months ago. It was strange
For me it brings a super feeling of freedom, power, and elation which is really hard to describe. I get hugely excited and happy once I make the discovery that I’m in a dream, and get a buzz of adrenaline.
I like that moment of epiphany where it becomes manifest that I’m in a dream. Like emerging from Plato’s cave into the blinding sunlight of reality.
I wanted to explore my subconscious and spiritual side through dreaming. I also thought it would be really amazing to experience something that can’t be felt in normal life.
It also occurred to me that I spend 30% of my life sleeping, if I can make a use of that time I’d extend my years and experience significantly.
The reason. Hmm. Quite a lot. I love the control and escape of course. I find it marvelous you can create an indistinguishable reality inside your mind. It really came down to one simple math equation. 24 (Daily Hrs) - 8 (Work) - 8 (Sleep) = 8 available for life. And all that comes along with it. I want to correct that. Find the alternate route. And lucid dreaming opens the gates wide open. You have all tacticle sensation in this dimension. Touch, taste, sight, sound, smell. It is also an internal health meter. Unhealthy people have dull dreams. That’s not an opinion. We have the ability to separate our conscious from our bodies, allowing us to explore the cosmos. If you don’t want that you must ask yourself what “you” posses is better. No activity or video game or movie can compare. Flying… teleporting… shape shifting… reality constructing. We are tapping into something Einstein would have loved to touch on. Godliness is around the corner.
Personally, I have a number of things I want to experience that are simply impossible in waking life. Lucid dreams provide a means to experience that, and more, in a safe consequence free environment. At least, with how my beliefs are anyway.
I strongly disagree, some of my most vivid, graphic and emotive dreams have been when I was under a lot of stress. I remember them even now, they had such an effect on me. Whereas, when I am not stressed my dreams may not be so vivid, they could be considered more ‘dull.’ In that light, it’s hard to accept having dull dreams is a sign of being unhealthy. Being stressed, isn’t a desirable state, and could be considered unhealthy. I don’t mean a positive exhilarating stress here either. So what you say, is actually an opinion.
No. Your stress doesn’t disprove the connection between health and dreaming. Dull may have been the wrong word of choice, but un healthy people have poor dream recall.
