So… Last night i was dreaming that i got a geometry test back, and i got 100% on it! I skimmed it a little and then flipped to the end and thoroughly read the last question… it was a rediculous question that made no sense and i thought to myself “how did i manage to get this question right?” so i thought “maybe i’m dreaming… I’ll do an RC!” so i read the question again and then looked away, and then when i went to look back and re-read it I woke up.
HOWEVER, the re-reading text RC is not one that I perform regularly IRL… So why would i perform it in my dream? Why wouldn’t I do a quicker easier RC that i’ve been doing IRL? (such as breathing through my nose while it’s plugged, closing one eye to see if I can see my nose, poking a hole through my hand with another finger, etc)?
Why not do it? It was probably just hidden in your brain to associate text in a dream that you think might be a dream with doing a text RC. There probably isn’t any real reason why you did that one, or didn’t do any other kinds other than the hidden pathways in your brain.
There can be a number of reasons for you waking up, it isn’t necessarily because you did a certain RC. I can’t imagine it took that much longer to do the Text RC than it would to do any of the other RCs you suggested. It could just be that you were at the end of your REM period, you got excited or just your thought process went off and woke you up.
As jsf said it will have depended on how you were thinking during the dream. It might also be if you have a relaxed attitude towards reality checking you are more prepared to create an RC on the hop. This could be an advantage if you find yourself in a situation where your primary RC can’t be done. (In real life or in a dream)
I’m really not sure I think maybe it also had something to do with my desire to re-read the question to see if it would make sense when i read it again. The question was something like “If the area of janet’s front lawn is 50 ft squared and her basketball is inside the house, then what is the diameter or her basketball?” so i was like “whaaa…?” i don’t know… maybe i figured “hey… i already have a piece of text in front of me… so why not do the text RC?”
Yes, I believe it is so. I myself had a number of occasions where I made RCs I don’t usually do - either accidently (Turning on the lights without them turning on) or purposly (Noticing a clock is odd and double-taking it)
Don’t trouble yourself with that. There be other dreams!
