2006 FIFA World Cup Germany

Here’s a question : what’s up with these spoilers? I mean…if someone wants to know the scores then they obviously shouldn’t read this thread right?

Sorry Petter, but USA should NOT have won against Italy. r u kidding me!? Italy are football (Im sorry… “soccer”) titans. Just be chuffed that they managed a tie! That alone will go down in history.

What you say is true? But come on : Italy are not what they used to be

They do not play as good as they used to, Am i right?

I wouldn’t go as far as to say that, but they didnt play very well in the 1st round of this World Cup (but then again, most teams don’t play up to par in the first round anyway, take England for example, or Brazil).

Oh yea, while I remember…
ENGLAND 1 - ECUADOR 0!!! BRING ON DA QTR FINALS!!!
On Netherlands vs. Portugal
I must admit I was frustrated at this game. It was an ugly game. Neither team played well, it looked like a gladiator battle—kill the opponents, then maybe try to score. Honestly, I don’t think either team deserved to go to the quarterfinals considering how bad they played. The Netherlands had an advantage most of the game, having 10 players while Portugal only had 9… And instead of making use of that fact, they stayed in the pass the ball tatics, and tried to kill some Portuguese until they got another red card themselves.

I am very surprised that Portugal won (hell, even the portuguese were), but honestly, I don’t think either team deserved the victory on such an ugly, dreadful game.
And while we are at it, on Germany and Sweden
I was supporting Sweden, although I knew Germany had several advantages, and this is another game that frustrated me. It felt like rugby. People would rather kick someone to the floor to get a ball than try to do that by means of… Well, football. I think the Swedish had their chance, and the team quit it too fast: they didn’t even seem to be really trying to score. They were not only not prepared to face Germany in Germany, they weren’t ready for any game—you could see they passed the ball to another team member and the team member would always have to run to where the ball was going.

Germany didn’t play well either. I would have expected a much more beautiful football from their side. Then again, this World Cup starts to feel like a kickboxing gladiator competition.

And yes, that referee is the devil. We love to hate him here in Brazil too. He should have given the second penalty kick for Sweden, if he has the guts to smile at someone when he’s giving them the red card, he should have the guts to give two penalty kicks against Germany. So yeah, he was unfair and coward.
On Argentina vs. Mexico
I was one of the only brazillians supporting Argentina… First because they’re our neighbours, so this rivalry we have not only is silly, but stupid, second because I want Brazil to play against them.

The last goal was stunning. Most beautiful goal of the cup so far! That’s what I’m talking about. Kudos for both teams, for both played beautiful football, it was a gorgeous match and if Mexico had won I would also be happy. It was one match worth watching to the end. And I’m looking forward to England vs. Argentina, that will be awesome game.

I hope next time Mexico is able to go further, they played beautifully, and it’s a shame they couldn’t make it to the quarterfinals.
Why do they color out the spoilers? Theyre not even spoilers!!! The matches hav already happened!!! How else are they gonna find out what the scores were??? And if they taped a match and havenet watched it yet, why would they be on a forum where people talk about the scores???

you can read the spoilers if you want and thus find out the scores. (just hightlight what’s inside) Some people don’t want to be confronted with scores if they haven’t seen the match yet.

I completely agree. Now it seems that some poeple want to participate to the discussions about the games without having seen them. It’s a perfectly respectable decision  hence I’ll continue to use spoilers.

Italy-Australia : like about two thirds of the games I’ve watched during this incredibly stupid WC, another ridiculous result which is only due to the referee. Grosso felt against a defensor who stayed motionless on the ground.

This WC is totally spoiled by the awfully weak level of the referees. It’s incredible that they asked the best players in the world to meet when they are watched by the worst referees in the world. For instance, who is this Mr Poulat (the only one french referee selected for this word cup and who ref’d so badly 2 games during the first round)? He is almost too old to referee a world cup (42 years old). And he’s even no more an active referee in France! :ack: After a long period when he didn’t work he just found six months ago an administrative job as a regional technical advisor for referee instruction. Don’t you find this ridiculous? :bored:

Yea I know u can. I just dont think anyone who doesnt want to know the scores would be dumb enough to go on this topic. lol.

I think the teams are just as riddiculous. This is a football worldcup, why do I get the feel that 50% of the teams which made it to the knockout phase are, despite their well known great players, trying to kill the other teams instead of playing football for a change?

I’m frustrated at my country for the players’ violence, but it wasn’t nearly as shocking as watching Netherlands vs. Portugal. I mean, what happened to football? This is the most riddiculous World Cup I’ve ever watched.

Switzerland-Ukraine

SPOILER - Click to view

The most soporific game between the two most defensive teams. It sounded like the wind had more chance to score a goal than the players. It was so boring that I prefered not to watch the end.

Yea too tru Bruno. The Netherlands Portugal game was just a televised riot. lol.

I love your comments basilus

I’m ashamed to be dutch. what a horriffic game that was :meh:

I think the Dutch team was young and unexperienced too much, that’s the reason why they wanted absolutely to prove something and to be present on each ball… without seeing there were legs nearby!
The opposite occurs with the French team, which is so old that they can’t even see the ball!

Nah (not meaning to be racist, its just a trend I noticed). I think the French and Dutch teams, along with most of the southern European teams and South American teams tend to throw a lot of temper tantrums. They also fake injury alot too. It’s a shame because most of those teams are actually really good, they ruin it with their panzy behavior tho.

France - Spain

France won by 3 goals to 1.

England-Portugal on Saturday. WOO!!!

There will be pretty good games soon. I’m longing to watch them.

England-Portugal: stats are quite equal, just a little bit better for Portugal. It will probably be a very great game.

The same for Germany-Argentina. Stats are equal yet Germany has more shots on goal (38 for Germany, 21 for Argentina) and they play at home.

About those two games, I can’t even imagine what the results will be. :eh: Now it’s simpler to imagine the other games results:

Brazil is far better than France (more goals for, less goals against, more shots on goal) but France will win nevertheless: they’ll use the same secret tactics they did against Spain, that is: Zidane will give the more passes he can to the opponents, Malouda will fake to be out of form, Ribery who is a midfielder will play as a forward and Henry, who is a forward, will play as a wing midfielder and possibly do the more offsides he can ; the defense will be only constituted by Sagnol. So that Brazil won’t understand at all what they do and the french defenders can attack and score plenty of goals!

Italy should win Ukraine easily, IMO.

I cant’ let you say such things… Brazil is not far better, they have amazing players but didn’t show much in the past games.
I mean Ronaldhino is transparent, Adriano think he can win the WC without teammates, Dida is a ghost-goal, as for Roberto Carlos who spend 80% of the game in the other team corner kick point.
Only Cafu, Kaka’, and Ronaldo are dangerous… But I think Sagnol can handle three of them by himself, actually he should be the only defender, so we have more chance to score. :peek:

But I agree with some points, we should put Trezeguet alone ahead, Henry should replace Malouda, and Zidane should go home and take care of his family

Other than that, we’ll win 2 -1. You can quote me later…

Oh and Italy we’ll win, 3 penaltys to zero… mwahaha
