Welcome, ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, to Lucid Challenge # 28!
I, Rhewin shall be your benevolent taskmaster (well, benevolent enough).
The LC began as a way to encourage lucidity, and to provide motivation and goals for one’s dreams. Over the last few years it has changed and adapted, but the core value still remains. Whether you are a new dreamer, and experienced LD’er, or you just want to have some fun, the LC is sure to give you something to think about!
In this LC, I plan to use some of the very best challenges we’ve seen over the years, as well as some new and interesting quests! How far do you think you can go in the Challenge? Well, sign up and see! The LC offers a little something for everyone
Compete with the other contestants for the chance to host an LC of your own, or just challenge yourself to become a better dreamer. My goal as TM is to help you become the LD’er you want to be, and I sincerely hope you all come away having learned something new about yourself!
Over the course of the last 5 LCs, the rules have been adapted to better provide an interesting and rewarding experience. I have made one or two minor changes, and they are marked in red. Here they are in their latest tweaked version:
LD points: you get these just for having an LD! You do not have to complete a task to get these, so post any and every lucid experience!
Points awarded for each dream:
- You wonder if you’re dreaming. + 5pts
- You become lucid but wake up shortly after or lose lucidity very quickly (generally 30 seconds or less for most dreamers). + 10pts
- Short LD: You have whatever you would consider to be short according to typical LD’s you’ve had in the past. + 20pts
- Medium/Average LD: You have what you would consider a medium size LD. This should be the average length of most of your dreams up to this point. + 30pts
- Long LD: You have what you would consider a long LD. + 40pts
A dream is considered a single one until you get out of bed and/or write down your dreams.
Additionally, if you beat your own personal record for longest LD, I will award +20pts. This can potentially happen more than once in the Challenge if you try hard enough to beat your own records.
As you can see, this scoring system is very subjective. This is because different people have different average lengths for lucid dreams. What one person may consider short (5 minutes) may be someone else’s medium and so on. This is so people can work on improving their own personal bests. It encourages the more advanced LD’ers to work hard too. To help you get a definite idea of what your usual duration is, you must post your average (or medium) LD time when you sign up.
Chaining and regaining lucidity: Every time you chain or get back your lucidity from having lost it, you are awarded 5 points. However, the new LD is counted as a continuation of the previous one; so, for example, you can have a medium LD, then chain and raise the LD score to that of a long one.
Task points: These are the points you are awarded for attempting, and completing, the various tasks. You do not have to be lucid to complete a task, but you will earn the most points while lucid. Each task will have different ways of rewarding points, and they will be explained as each task is posted.
Ideas in mind: In this Challenge, I will be focusing on creativity as well as personal growth. You’ll recieve points for completeing any task, but you’ll earn the most with a little ingenuity.
Any task can be attempted any number of times, however the scores are not cumulative among the same task. Only the best score is awarded for each one. (Example: You earn 50 points on first attempt but only 20 on the second. You will only earn points from the first).
For each task, the following bonuses can be awarded:
+30 lucid points (for any task accomplished while lucid; this is seperate from lucid points)
+20 early points (for completing the last task active when you go to sleep)
Combo points! Completing two tasks in a single dream will award you 20 combo points per task. Note: This is a slight change from previous LC’s. Rather than combos marking all dreams as early, they are now completely seperate points. This means you can earn early points for the current task as well as combo points!
Base idea for awarding points in each task:
In LC 28, every task will have its own points structure. Some will be very basic, while others will be more complex. Some may earn more base points, others might want more than the basics, and others still may want a little variety. There are three basic ways to earn points in every challenge:
- Completing the basic task. (30-50 pts)
- Completing secondary tasks. (10-50 pts)
- Points earned per action or variation. (5-20 pts per tick)
It is my goal to make the LC more task centered rather than points centered, so I will attempt to make the reward structure as easy to understand as possible.
Extra occasional points awarded for display of creativity and/or prowess (max 30 per task) by the TM. Remember those are for special instances only. They are cumulative, even among different task attempts.
The monthly Quest counts as task, and awards 50 points for completion, possibly more at the discretion of the TM. It is not counted as early, but it is feasible for combos.
When you sign up, also give your personal task. That is, a task that is one of your goals for LD’ing. I will award 30 pts for completing your task.
Like in LC 27, you are not limited to one personal task. You may choose a new one after you complete the first. Since my goal is self improvement, I will award another 10 pts for every extra PT you complete. However, there will be certain requirements for secondary PT’s, such as having to complete the task with your DG or a RL friend
A few last things
I will attempt to have tasks up by 6p.m. GMT. There will be 7 tasks total, and each may be up for different ammounts of time depending on difficulty. I reserve the right to extend time limits for any reason I see fit.
Your dreams will have to be written down to be judged, so either post them here, or post a link to your online DJ entries (preferred).
Don’t worry about the points calculation, it will be me who will calculate all the scores. (It is required, given the possibility of bonus points)
If you feel I made an error in points, please PM me immediately and I will either explain or correct. We are here to have fun, so if you and I disagree on how many points you have earned, please do not make a scene. If you don’t like how I reward points, then win the LC so you can make up your own rules!
As per tradition, the Challenge will be open to up to 20 participants with a minimum of 10. As long as there are spots still open, feel free to join even if we have already started.
To quote LC 27’s TM: The main aim of all this will be letting the dreamers grow in their ability to explore, use and interact with the dreamscape, plus developing confidence in their actions as well as new techniques, skills, and methods. This is more than a challenge - it is a personal adventure, that will guide you through the world of possibilities that is your dreams, growing better at this awesome and useful skill we call Lucid Dreaming, making it grow steadily, day by day, task by task.
I will be assisting all participants, with suggestions, hints and encouragements, so that you will easily reach the desired goals. You can also ask aid from the other competitors, I’m sure they’ll be eager to share their advice ^^ You can PM me as well, at any time, for any kind of question you would want to be answered.
Good luck to all of you! I sincerely hope you walk away from this feeling good about how you performed. All right, let’s get this show on the road!
