Welcome to the 60th Lucidity Challenge
Dear people of LD4all, I am your host for Lucidity Challenge 60 (LC60®).
Please greet the co-host as well, Mew151. It is our honor to host such a special event.
The Lucidity Challenge (LC) is a traditional game in LD4all. It has now reached the number 60.
60 is a very unique number, did you know it’s divisible by 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 10, 12, 15, 20, 30, and 60?
There is no number below 60 with so many divisors. This is so special that it was chosen to divide minutes into seconds (and so on).
After five dozens of Lucidity Challenges, LC60® (also LC:LX®) is also special in every sense. It is a milestone for LD4all history, which has recently reached its 21st anniversary.
Here, the dreamer is the most important. And they are also given points for dreaming.
The highest score wins!
The winner of LC60® will be be asked to host LC 61! That is a real honor! However, If they don’t want to, the option to host passes on the second place, and so on. Still, the primary objective of LC is to have fun, while the secondary is to train your LDing techniques as well as dream recall.
The LC60® is going to be unique in several ways, but first, we are going to tell you what is common to all other Lucidity Challenges.
This challenge is going to maintain the fact that the hosts keep the scores and post the tasks. We will also allow personal goals with special additions!
When claiming points, please be clear if you think you have succeeded on a specific subtask.
Dream Journals (DJ) are not required, however, it is also recommended to post a link to your DJ, after all it can improve your dream recall, and will give you points!
If you really want to post your dream here, the usage of spoiler tags is recommended.
LC60® Highlights
We Heard the Community
LC60® has 3 levels of tasks: Tasks, Subtasks and Subsubtasks.
Tasks are posted weekly. They are not worth points themselves, they are an article with a text that groups subtasks.
Tasks have start times and expiration times.
These times are treated as strict deadlines.
We have added new ways of cooperation without enforcing people to join teams.
Unlike previous challenges, we will not allow to post dreams from previous week.
Do not miss the deadlines! We are going to provide only a small tolerance due to timezones!
Please accept our apologies, but this is required to implement the completely new scoring system of LC60.
Most subtasks are worth points, with clear instructions on what you are supposed to perform.
Some subtasks might include subsubtasks. In case you accomplish a subsubtask, you automatically claim its parent subtask.
This was created to add bonus subtasks that depend on others, as common in LC59 and others.
To make it clearer, consider the following example: “Subtask”: Visit a place; “Subsubtask”: Interact with a DC in that place.
When you complete the subsubtask, the subtask is automatically added as completed.
New Scoring, More Motivation
Dream types are now considered prime subtasks. Please specify a dream and its type in order to claim subtasks.
Keeping a dream journal is not easy, but now it will give you points.
LC60® is going to encourage you to share your dream art.
Your knowledge on Lucid Dreaming incubation techniques will also be rewarded.
Fun is the only Mandatory Subtask
We are not forcing members to dream, this is a game that every one is invited. New features will allow everyone to have fun, with or without their own dreams.
New unlockable subtasks could appear at any minute! Now you have even more reasons to check updates.
New features include more strategic choices that will reward your ability to plan what to claim.
Help fellow participants. Bet on their upcoming successes and earn points.
Innovation on Balancing
LC60® Balancing system is completely new. No one will be able to win too soon.
Subtasks will have bonus scores balanced weekly. Hard subtasks are now more worthy than ever.
LC60®: Transparency, Free News and Dreamocracy
The scoring will not be based on subjectivity of the host. There will be no creativity points.
We will do our best to add instructions to subtasks and subsubtasks to avoid confusion. The way the scores are calculated are public and can be checked by anyone.
LC60® is going to include a newsroom with updates on the tasks, subtasks and successes! News are going to be updated at least once a day. There is no more reason on idling if you are not having much dreams.
Some subtasks and decisions will be supported by voting. Open to anyone. We will run polls where you can choose the best subtasks for our LCers!
You have found the challenge that is right for you! In LC60® we will have plenty of features to ensure fun even if you cannot LD.
Daily Scoring Updates
At least once a day, scores will be updated. This is our goal.
You will be able to see your scores and how other participants are doing better than ever.
Everyday is Caturday
Caturday is the official IRC bot of LC60®.
You will be able to see updates on IRC like never before.
Scoring
The scoring system of LC60® is unique! Extreme changes were implemented to allow adaptive balancing and increase the competition and the cooperation. You will be able to track your scoring with in-depth details and graphs.
Length of LC60®
If you think this is a nice challenge, you can make it last longer, but be careful. Strange things could happen!
The LC60® will have 4 or 5 weeks. Decided by voting during the third week.
Weeks are always exactly 7 days long. Do not miss the time to post your dreams!
We have also added tie-breaking rule, adding up to 3 days.
Please open the spoiler and pay attention to details!
Compared to prior LCs, the LC60 has a completely new scoring system.
What changed since: LC 59
Non-accumulative and Accumulative Scoring
This is simply to make clear something that was usual to prior LCs.
Non-accumulative items can be claimed only once for the whole LC.
Accumulative items can be claimed one time per dream.
You can claim several dreams with the same accumulative items.
LD Induction Technique Points
LC60® has a completely new approach to giving points for technique successes.
You can select your favorite technique and score even more.
This also means that natural DILDs are worth less.
If you are not a natural LDer, now you have more chances!
If you are a natural LDer, now you have further motivation to try new techniques!
This is the ultimate balancing change that most people were asking.
Scoring
These are the basic scores that you can claim for the whole challenge.
Non-Lucid points
Fragments: 0 points (was 1) - Fragments are not recorded at all and you cannot claim any subtask with them.
ND/NLD Non-lucid Dreams: 0 points. (was 2) They are still recorded for data purposes and you can still accomplish subtasks on them.
Lucid points
Lucid Dream Control: 0 points (was 5). Not recorded.
RC-ND Wondering if you are dreaming (but not becoming lucid): 2 points (was 5) Accumulative.
S-LD Short Lucid Dream (includes just realization): 10 points (was 20) Accumulative.
M-LD Medium Lucid Dream: 14 points (was 30) Accumulative.
L-LD Long Lucid Dream: 18 points (was 40) Accumulative.
F6-LD First Lucid Dream in 6 Months: 25 points (new!) Non-Accumulative.
LE-LD Longest-Ever Lucid Dream: 25 points (was 50) Accumulative.
FE-LD First-Ever Lucid Dream: 25 points (was 50) Non-accumulative. (Implied: adds to first Lucid Dream in 6 Months; final score is 50)
New in LC60: Personal Goals can only be claimed while lucid.
PG Personal goal while lucid - 45 points (was 100).
After completing a personal goal you may choose a bonus subtask according to new specific rules.
Unchanged from LC59
Current LD4ALL Monthly Quest - 75 points (was 75)
We had a historic low attempts on monthly quests during the recent past.
After a long discussion, people who create quests have begged to make monthly quests more worthy to everyone.
You must post a reply to the Current Monthly Quest topic before claiming.
LC60® is going to have specific rules on LD4all Monthly Quests.
Some old quests may be revived during tasks, but they would be worth less than the current quest.
New in LC60®: DJ Entry Points
DJ Entry Linking dream to Dream Journal Entry: 2 points (was 0) Accumulative
Therefore, while all dreams are worth less, dream journal entries add score to every dream you type.
Subtask Scoring
There will be plenty of subtasks.
They will be up as soon as they are marked as posted on a Task Post, or unlocked by a participant.
You cannot claim a subtask with a dream OLDER than the task post.
LC60® with exciting scoring system:
Bonus Scores
The fixed early subtask and late subtask point difference has been removed.
Instead, LC60® is the first LC to implement variable bonuses.
What you need to learn is that:
Every week we will update the bonuses for completing an older subtask according to past attempts.
This was created to allow subtasks that no one attempted to increase in score.
Our goal is to reward people who attempt the subtasks no one else wanted to try.
Score Progression
The minimum score for the new subtasks will increase every time a new weekly task is posted.
This was created to allow the late weeks to have more valuable subtasks to perform.
Our goal is to make the late weeks more competitive.
Now, the participants should have more motivation to continue trying even if someone claimed a lot of points during early weeks.
Tie-Breaking
In case you were wondering why some scores are lower, we are trying to make things more competitive.
This would bring scoring close enough to add tie-breaking.
If the second place has at least 95% of first place in scoring, we will add one tie-breaking day to the challenge. Up to 3 days.
(To make it clear: if (second place score) >= (first place) * 95/100 then tie-break).
Notice 1: After 3 days, if the first place score is greater than second place, then first place wins (regardless of percent).
Notice 2: After 3 days, if the first place score is exactly equal to second place (in 1/100 precision), then the participant who joined THE LC first wins.
Therefore, you have several reasons to rush when joining the LC!
Reasoning for Score Change
In case you are wondering, there are several reasons to change the scores.
The plan is to avoid unbalanced subtasks that can only be claimed by a single participant or specific team.
It is also going to be harder to win the challenge too soon.
Cooperation in LC60®
We have asked members. Some prefer team collaboration while others strongly dislike teams.
Listening to you, we have a completely new system for LC60®.
LC60® is going to have collaboration without enforcing teams.
This also means there would be no unbalanced teams either.
The new focus is not on type of categories, but how to achieve LDing and your own goals.
Collectibles
Subtasks may have categories and become collectibles.
Some of them can be held by you and earn a small share upon completion.
This means some subtasks can be shared with your friends and you will score together.
There are four kinds of collectible subtasks:
- Unlockable Subtasks;
- Subtask Giveaways;
- LD Induction Technique Successes;
- Dream of Other Participant.
Subtask Categories
Some Collectible Subtasks have categories, shown as colors.
There are 7 colors for subtasks:
- Red;
- Orange;
- Yellow;
- Green;
- Blue;
- Indigo;
- Violet.
Subtasks without colors are shown as gray.
They were created to balance the claims on subtasks.
But first, we need to learn about personal goals.
Personal Goal:
Each participant can create one personal goal.
After the creator completes the goal, they can unlock a subtask.
However, it is now limited to 1 Personal Goal for the whole challenge.
Personal Goals work just like previous challenges, however, they are worth less in order to balance with other subtasks.
Only the creator of the personal goal can claim it.
Personal Goal is Non-Accumulative: It can only be claimed once.
Personal Goal can only be claimed in an LD.
Details:
Non-accumulative.
Score is always 45 points (was 100 in LC59).
Personal Goals have no bonuses.
Personal Goals may have a color, futher details described under signups.
Unlockable Subtasks
It is completely optional. You need to request when you meet the requirements.
We will provide a list of subtasks available for unlocking. They can be choosen by participants once they meet the requirements for unlocking.
There are three instances that allow you to unlock this kind of subtask:
- Unlock 1 Subtask: Complete your personal goal (only once);
- Unlock 1 Subtask: Every time you complete 4 subtasks of the same color;
- Unlock 2 Subtasks: Every time you complete 7 different colors of subtasks.
Once a subtask is unlocked, anyone can complete it.
Every day could unlock a new subtask. Then, be sure to check often.
The participant who unlocked it will earn a small share from any completion, including their own.
Details:
You can unlock any subtask of color that is available for unlocking.
The subtask completion/success can be claimed by anyone one day after it has been unlocked.
This means you cannot unlock a subtask after you dream of it.
You cannot claim subtasks marked as locked.
There are limits to avoid participants from owning all the unlockable subtasks:
- Total Limit: 8 unlockable subtasks per participant;
- Maximum 2 unlocks per color category.
The limit of 8 is valid for every unlockable, including giveaways and other unlocks.
Each participant can only unlock two subtasks by completing each color, therefore, they only unlock when reaching 4 and/or 8 subtasks of a given color.
This is important to stop participants from repeating accumulative tasks and to keep the challenge balanced.
Subtask Giveaways:
Once a new task is posted, we will also give away extremely simple (predefined) subtasks worth 5 points, one with each color.
You will be able to choose from a predefined set of subtasks, but be quick! They are limited!
We will only post them on Saturdays to make it easier for you to unlock them!
This is to encourage participants to check as soon as the new task is posted.
It is completely optional.
Details:
Giveaways are the same unlockable subtasks referred in the “Unlockable Subtasks” Section.
They are subject to the same rules and limits.
Dreamer who completes the subtask earns 5 points, only once (non-accumulative).
The person who earned it gets 1 point on each completion.
Implied: If you dream and complete your own earned subtask you get 6 points.
LD Induction Techniques
Place bets on your favorite LD induction techniques and earn a small score when someone gets an LD with it.
This includes yourself.
It is completely optional.
Description: Several induction techniques are now accumulative subtasks.
The dreamer earns 10 plus the bonus.
The participants who have chosen the technique divide 2 points among them, even if one of them is the dreamer.
This means if there are two participants who have chosen this technique, they would earn 1 point each.
We could also allow non-whole number total scoring to comply with this division.
Details:
Accumulative.
Base score is 10.
Bonus scores are from 0 to 7.
Technique Successes can be completed by anyone and are accumulative.
They can be shared by any number of participants. Chosen upon joining. At most one per participant during whole LC.
Techniques do not have colors. (Further described in the following sections)
Note: If you join late, You can only chose LD induction techniques that had no claimed LDs.
You have more options if you join quickly! Please do!
Which technique would you choose? The easy techniques that would surely pay?
Or an uncommon technique that no one chose, which could increase in bonuses later?
Now you have extra motivation to help your friends to use your preferred technique.
You should post on Quest For Lucidity and use chat-rooms to help other participants to succeed.
LD Induction Bonuses
This is how the LD Technique bonuses work.
These bonuses work similarly to shared subtasks.
This time, we will be expecting 2 successes per week for each subtask.
This means we add 2 every week then we subtract the number of sucesses from previous weeks.
The result becomes the added bonus.
To make it clearer, these are the bonus points:
- 0 or less → 0 points;
- 1 → 1 point;
- 2 → 2 points;
- 3 → 3 points;
- 4 → 4 points;
- 5 → 5 points;
- 6 → 6 points;
- 7 or more → 7 points.
Why is that?
We are rewarding people who try different techniques.
Now you have more motivation to check often the scoring board.
We will update the values every week.
Dream of Other Participant
Now you can earn points if someone dreams of you!
It is completely optional.
However, there is a small limitation, you cannot claim a dream about dreaming of yourself.
Details:
Non-Accumulative.
Dreamer gets 5 points plus bonuses. Dreamer can claim only once per person they dream of. (It is allowed to claim again only if dreamed of another participant.)
Participant who is dreamed of earns 2 points, every time someone claims.
If you want to participate, choose your color among the 7 colors.
How do the bonuses work
We will add 2 to the bonus every week minus the past number of dreams in which that person appeared. This count is individual to each participant.
Bonus values are:
- 0 or less → 0 points;
- 1 → 1 point;
- 2 → 2 points;
- 3 → 3 points;
- 4 → 4 points;
- 5 → 5 points;
- 6 → 6 points;
- 7 or more → 7 points.
Now you have more reasons to invite your friends to join the LC!
You can dream of them and claim points if they are also participating.
This is defined as a shared subtask and always has a color.
How does this shared scoring improves the challenge?
Members asked us if the LC could be more exciting, similarly to the RP games.
Now we have more reasons to see other’s dreams to check how they are performing, since they can earn score.
Be wise while claiming your score!
This now affects the bonus of other participants.
You could accidentally help someone ahead of you.
You now have the option to avoiding claiming subtasks.
But remember we have deadlines!
You cannot hide a subtask success and then try to claim it later.
The LC60® involves more strategic decisions than ever.
I do not like your new scoring system
Well, we cannot please everyone. Sorry if it sounds complicated.
We tried hard to improve the balancing system.
You have another motivation to join and win it and propose a new system.
After this wall of text, we argue that you should join as soon as possible.
Scoreboard
Frequently Asked Questions
“Do NDs/NLDs count?”
They are valid but they do not add score themselves. Only DJ entries and subtasks.
“Can I complete a subtask in an ND/NLD?”
YES.
However, Personal Goals, Monthly Quests and LD Techniques require Lucid Dreams.
“Do Fragments count?”
No. And you cannot type DJs of fragments. Therefore they are worth nothing in LC60®. I am sorry.
“How could you make participants choose their favorite technique?”
It was added to balance natural DILDs. Now participants can coolaborate on teaching and learning their techniques.
“Can I complete a subtask unlocked by another participant?”
Yes.
“Can I complete a subtask marked as locked?”
No.
“Can I accumulate DJ Entry points with LDs?”
Yes. DJ entries are valid for any dream type, except fragments.
“Can I accumulate different Art Types in the same dream?”
No. Only one art per dream. All art must be related to a dream. You cannot claim unrelated art.
“What are these colors again?”
Colors are used to categorize the subtasks.
We have new unlocking rules for completing sets of colors.
In that manner, they balance the demand for the subtask, making people have a motivation to try a subtask with less value because they wish to complete the color set.
There are 7 possible colors:
- Red;
- Orange;
- Yellow;
- Green;
- Blue;
- Indigo;
- Violet.
“How do art points work?”
All art must be posted on forum before claiming.
Art is accumulative, but one can only claim each type per dream.
There aren’t variable bonuses and they aren’t so valuable compared to most subtasks.
The art must be based on a dream which happened during the LC.
The score goes to the dreamer who had the dream inspiring the art.
The artist must confirm which dream it was based on while claiming.
It is recommended to create art based on your own dreams, however…
If you pay attention to it, it means that the artist can be someone else than the dreamer. It was added to encourage collaboration and DJ reading.
Drawing or Painting: 6 Points, Orange
Fiction: 5 Points, Yellow
Poetry: 5 Points, Green
Music Sheet: 6 Points, Indigo
Photography: 4 Points, Blue
Remember that I need full author approval for claiming.
Note: It is recommended to post on Garden of Creation or Fruits of Lucidity to document that it was dream art. Please post the link here.
Yet another asked question: “If I write both music sheet and lyrics, may I claim both?”
or
“If I create an sculpture and take a photograph of it, may I claim both?”
You can only claim one art type per dream. Then we would set the highest score value.
This means we would apply music score to the former and sculpture to the latter.
Possibly asked question: “Can I find an existing artistic piece and claim as art?”
No. All art must be created during the LC based on a dream by an LC participant.
The hosts reserve the right to reject any art that seems unrelated.
Please write a DJ entry to make it easier for us to verify.
“How could you spoil the LC? Did the Cohost allow you to do it”
He did allow it. Sorry if you don’t like it. See it like a framework to experiment new features.
Now you have another motivation to win it and save the LC from my crazy deeds.
“How long will it last?”
4 to 5 weeks.
[edit] 5 got elected with more than 72% during Week 3.
“I like/dislike this LC. Can you make it longer/shorter?”
During third week we will vote for it to last for 4 or 5 weeks. Anyone is welcome to vote for it.
“Why is it so complicated?”
You do not need to worry about the different and complicated parts since they are completely optional.
We do have some experimental features. The biggest focus was on balancing the scoring.
It is now harder for natural LDers thanks to technique points. Harder subtasks that no one tries also earn bonuses instead of losing value.
We also added ways to allow coolaboration without teams, which several people reported to dislike.
“Why is your scoreboard so terrible?”
Thank you for helping me improve it! Please submit suggestions via PM or IRC!
“Why do art scores go to the dreamer not the artist?”
As stated earlier:
Every score is related to a dream. You cannot claim points without a dream.
And yes, the art score goes to the dreamer. Initially I would call it “Dream Royalties” or “Dream Copyright” or “Dream Inspiration” but I was afraid these would sound too complex as well.
The current plan allows you to “hire” external artists to create art of your dreams.
I expected most art would come from the dreamers themselves. If points would go to the artist, it wouldn’t encourage artists who aren’t participating to make art.
I did consider to give points to the artist, but I guess I need to explain why I did not:1. Dream art has fixed points; This means any art would get the same score, regardless of “quality”.
- Consider that some prolific artist joins and starts to make art from every dream.
Then the LC winner could be an artist who never had a single dream.
While I have nothing against artists, this is probably not our goal here.
Think about what implies in giving points to the dreamer:1. The dreamer would be encouraged to make art of their own dream.
- The dreamer would try to encourage artists to create art from their dream;
- The dreamer would improve DJ quality to inspire artists.
Based on these two possibilities I have chosen the second.
Remember that there is a limit of one art per dream to avoid someone claiming all the arts again.
The hosts reserve the right to reject any art that seems unrelated.
Please write a DJ entry to make it easier for us to verify.
Thank you very much for your interest!
Now that we have created a completely new LC, we just need the most important:
Participants.
To join, all you need is to add your nickname to the list.
Please see how Mew151 shows us.
There are some optional settings for advanced participants:
“I want to provide my Dream Journal Link!”Dream Journal Link is optional. This is going to help us to track your successes!
It is also useful to improve your recall, so we recommend you do add it.
“I want to set my Personal Goal!”
Personal Goal is optional. But you will have no benefits from not setting it.
Also optional: You can choose an image (icon or avatar size) or an emoji for any personal goal you create!
This is completely optional an purely cosmetic.
It will eventually appear on your profile page.
Hint: Choose an emoji from emojipedia.org/
Note 1: Emojis are always shown as grayscale, roughly similar to graphemica.
Note 2: If you also set your nick color, your personal goal would have the same color.
“Ok, I want to set my Nick Color!”
Participant Nick Color is optional.
It will eventually appear on your profile page with scoring.
It will also be used to categorize on your “dream of participant” subtask.
There are 7 possible colors:
- Red;
- Orange;
- Yellow;
- Green;
- Blue;
- Indigo;
- Violet.
Note: If you set your nick color, it implies you agree to participate on the “dream of participant” subtask.
Note 2: If you set your nick color and a personal goal, your personal goal would have the same color.
“I want to set my Avatar Picture!”
Avatar Picture is optional. It is purely cosmetic.
It will eventually appear on your profile page with scoring. You can use the same avatar picture from LD4all if you wish.
It will also appear on your “dream of participant” subtask.
"I want to set my Preferred LD Induction Technique!
Preferred LD Induction Technique is optional. But you will have no benefits from not setting it.
If you set your Preferred LD Induction Technique, you can share points from LD completions from any other participant.
Here, we provide a list of approved techniques you can choose:
- CALD;
- DEILD; (not available)
- FILD;
- HILD;
- LDILD;
- MILD; (not available)
- RCILD; (not available)
- SSILD;
- UILD;
- VILD; (not available)
- WILD; (not available)
For details on acronyms, place cursor over. We also recommend to check the What are these acronyms.
Remember to browse the forum for more information on techniques!
You can suggest more techniques posted on LD4all, but we reserve the right to reject them.
For instance, DILD is not accepted as a technique.
This was created to balance with Natural LDer scoring.
WBTB, ADA and similar methods are often used in conjunction with other techniques and will not be accepted either.
Remember that you can only claim one technique per LD. If you want to mix, we will only consider the first written on your post.
If you do not like this, simply do not claim techniques when getting an LD.
Remember that more than one participant can choose the same technique.
We know this could cause some arguments, then we will allow to change before the first task is posted.
Yes, this was intentional because we want to encourage discussion on LDing.
After the task is posted, no one will be allowed to change their preferred techniques.
Notice to participants who join after the first task is up:
You can only choose a technique that had no claimed LDs. You will not be able to change at all.
Please join AFTER the sample post.
To avoid longer post, Mew151 will provide the sample joining post for you to quote and edit.
Only adding your nick to the list is mandatory! The other items are completely optional!
It cannot be easier than this. Now, join as soon as you can and invite all your friends.
We will also provide a sample post for claiming points.
Just wait until the first task is open!
